Mont Belvieu’s roofs and remodels, north of I-10 on SH 146

Mont Belvieu nearly doubled between 2010 and 2020, from 3,835 people to 7,654, and it sits on a salt dome that holds the largest underground storage facility for liquefied petroleum gas in the United States. We work on its roofs, its kitchens and small commercial interiors in town.

Working in Mont Belvieu

Mont Belvieu is a Chambers County city just north of Interstate 10 along State Highway 146, 14 miles northeast of Baytown on 146 and 31 miles east of Houston on I-10. Its first permanent settlers were a cattle rancher and his wife, and at one time the whole of Mont Belvieu was pasture for their cattle. The city was built on a salt dome that has been used to store liquid petroleum gas, and it is home to the largest underground storage facility for liquefied petroleum gas in the country. The 2020 census counted 7,654 residents, nearly double the 3,835 of 2010.

After a plant explosion in 1985, Mont Belvieu was rebuilt two miles east of where it had stood, with a new city hall and relocated schools. The Eagle Drive area is now the central core of its residential side and holds multiple subdivisions. The Chambers County portion of the city is served by the Barbers Hill Independent School District, and a small slice of the city reaches into Liberty County. Old River-Winfree, Cove, Baytown, Beach City and Barrett are the nearest listed places. For a remodel or a re-roof, the useful details are simpler than the history: which subdivision the house is in and which side of the county line it sits on.

Mont Belvieu is incorporated, and the City of Mont Belvieu’s permit office is where a re-roof, a remodel that moves plumbing or an addition begins for a house inside its limits. The city’s review covers its whole area, so the Liberty County side and the Chambers County side go through the same city process. If your subdivision has a homeowners association, it may also have rules on roof color and material, and we ask for the HOA’s approval form at the start, not the week the shingles arrive.

Chambers County had 46,571 residents in 2020, and Mont Belvieu is one of the communities the county lists alongside Winnie, Stowell and Oak Island. The Grand Parkway, Interstate 10 and State Highway 146 all cross the county. Spring is hail season here, as it is across Greater Houston, and a single storm can work over every roof on a street in the same ten minutes. When that happens, the roofs in a subdivision tend to come due together, and the calendars of every roofer nearby fill fast.

The jobs that come up here

Class 4 shingle installation puts an impact-rated shingle on new work, such as an addition or a new house with no roof on it yet. The rating comes from a standard impact test, and Class 4 is the top of the scale. On a new build the choice is simple to make, since there is no existing roof to remove either way. If insurance is part of your reason, ask your carrier in writing how it treats a Class 4 roof. Kitchen remodeling covers the layout jobs: moving the sink to an island, taking out a wall, relocating the range and running its vent to the outside.

Luxury home remodeling is for the owner who wants custom work and higher-spec materials throughout: site-built cabinetry, stone, solid-core doors, layered lighting, and a primary suite planned around how the household lives. The plan and the materials list come first, in writing, so the choices are made before demolition and not during it. For a business owner in town, commercial remodeling reworks an existing space for a new use or a new tenant: walls, ceilings, lighting, restrooms and accessible entries, coordinated with the city’s inspections and phased around business hours when the space is occupied.

  • Class 4 shingle installation A new roof is the simplest moment to choose impact resistance, because no good roof gets thrown away to get it.
  • Commercial remodeling Commercial remodeling is changing a space that already exists: moving walls, upgrading restrooms, redoing finishes or adapting a building for a new use.
  • Kitchen remodeling A kitchen remodel changes the layout: the sink moves to an island, the wall to the family room comes out, the range gets a hood that actually vents outdoors.

Plenty of roofs we look at need a repair or nothing at all. If that is yours, you will hear it from us first.

Part of Mont Belvieu is in Liberty County. Is the process different there?

For building work inside the city, no. The City of Mont Belvieu reviews work inside its limits on both sides of the county line. We confirm the details for your address before the scope is final, so nothing about the county line catches you off guard.

Our HOA has to approve a new roof. Can you help with that?

Yes. We fill in the product details the HOA asks for, usually the shingle line, the color and a sample or brochure, and we wait for approval before ordering. Starting that early keeps the HOA from being the reason a job slips.

Is a Class 4 roof worth it on a new house in Mont Belvieu?

Often, because there is no old roof to tear off, so you are choosing between two new shingles rather than paying to switch later. It handles hail better than a standard shingle. Whether it changes your insurance is a question for your carrier, and we give you the product name to ask about.

Why was Mont Belvieu rebuilt in a new spot after 1985?

After a plant explosion that year, the city was rebuilt two miles east of its old location, with a new city hall and relocated schools. That is the record we have. It has nothing to do with your roof, but it explains why the town sits where it does.

Can a kitchen island get a sink on a slab foundation?

Yes, though it means cutting the slab to run the drain and vent to the new spot, then patching and leveling the floor. We locate the existing lines first and plan the trench so the cut is no bigger than it has to be.

We also work in Old River-Winfree, Cove, Baytown, Beach City, Barrett. The whole list is on the Chambers County page.

Two owners, both veterans, one phone number. We inspect, photograph and tell you what the job really needs, including when it needs nothing yet. Military families and first responders take 10% off.
