Dayton’s roofs, remodels and new builds, where US 90 meets SH 99

Dayton started in 1831 as West Liberty, three miles west of the Trinity River, and it took three tries to become the city it is today. We work on Dayton roofs, whole-house remodels and new builds on land outside town, with written scopes and no sales pitch.

Working in Dayton

The town was called West Liberty when it was founded in 1831. It voted to separate from the City of Liberty in 1898, incorporated in May 1911, and then voted to disincorporate within days after a fire devoured the center of town that August. It reincorporated on November 28, 1925, and has stayed a city since. The 2020 census counted 8,777 residents on 30.70 square miles, nearly all of it land. Dayton is also the meeting point of two Union Pacific rail lines, and the Dayton Independent School District serves the city.

Roads tie Dayton to the rest of the region. U.S. 90 is the main route through town, running west toward Crosby and Houston, and the Grand Parkway, SH 99, crosses it and links Dayton to the other outer edges of Greater Houston. SH 321, SH 146, FM 1960 and FM 1409 reach out from town in other directions. The nearest listed neighbors are Kenefick, Liberty, Dayton Lakes, Ames and Hardin. For a job site, what matters is that a dumpster and a material truck can get to your driveway without tearing up the yard, and we confirm the access before any delivery is scheduled.

Dayton is incorporated, so the City of Dayton’s permit office is where a re-roof, an addition or a remodel that moves plumbing starts for a house inside the limits. With 30.70 square miles inside the line, plenty of rural-looking land is still in town, and some land that looks like town is outside it. We look your address up against the city limits rather than guessing from the mailing address. Outside them, county and state rules on floodplain, septic and culverts may still apply, and the scope spells out which ones touch your job.

Spring storms bring hail to Dayton the same as everywhere else around Houston, and a hail claim lives or dies on documentation. Hail leaves a pattern: bruises in the shingle mat, granules knocked loose in round spots, dents in soft metal vents and gutters, and damage concentrated on the slopes that faced the storm. We photograph each slope, mark the strikes in a test square and note the date of the storm you believe caused them. Then you take that to your carrier. We do not promise anyone a claim, and we will not invent damage to get one.

The jobs that come up here

Hail damage roof replacement is the job when the strikes are real, spread across the roof, and your carrier agrees. Architectural shingle replacement is the line we write when an old three-tab roof is due anyway and the owner wants the heavier, dimensional shingle that holds up better in wind. For new construction on land outside town, custom barndominium construction covers the whole job from the slab up: steel or post frame, the shell, insulation that keeps the summer heat out, and an interior laid out for the way your family lives. We walk you through the order of work plainly, from site prep to handing over the keys, and we put each stage in writing before it starts.

Whole home remodeling fits a Dayton house where the problem is the layout, not the finishes: a closed-off kitchen, a hallway that eats square footage, a bathroom too small to use. That work can move walls, plumbing and wiring, so the plan, the city review and the order of trades all get settled before demolition. For a business on U.S. 90, commercial build-outs take an empty shell and finish it for the tenant: framing, ceilings, restrooms, lighting, and the doors and counters the use calls for. We keep the schedule written down and tied to the city’s inspections, so you know when you can open.

  • Architectural shingle replacement Plenty of older Houston subdivisions were built with three-tab shingles, and many of those roofs are at the end of their run.
  • Commercial build-outs A build-out takes an empty space, a gray shell or a landlord’s white box, and turns it into a place you can run a business.
  • Custom barndominium construction A custom barndominium starts with a list of how your household actually lives, then the steel and concrete get sized to fit it.

Leave it?

Plenty of roofs we look at need a repair or nothing at all. If that is yours, you will hear it from us first.

Dayton’s limits cover 30 square miles. How do I know if my house is inside them?

We check the address against the current city limits before we write the scope. Rural-looking land can be inside Dayton and a suburban-looking street can be outside it. If you are inside, the City of Dayton’s permit office reviews the work. If not, we tell you which county and state rules may apply.

What should I do right after a hail storm in Dayton?

Write down the date, take photos from the ground of anything dented or knocked loose, and keep everyone off the roof until it has been inspected safely. Then call us and your insurance carrier. We document the damage slope by slope, and if the hail missed your roof, we tell you that too.

Are architectural shingles worth it over three-tab?

For most houses, yes. They are thicker, they hold better in wind and they hide minor unevenness in the deck. Three-tab still has a place on a simple outbuilding, and we will say so if that is what you are roofing.

Can a barndominium go on land near Dayton that sometimes holds water?

Sometimes, with the right site work. The pad has to sit above the water that crosses the land, the slab needs drainage around it, and the floodplain rules for that lot have to be checked first. If the land cannot be built on safely, we tell you before anyone pours concrete.

Do you finish out commercial space on US 90?

Yes. We take an empty unit to a finished space: walls, ceilings, restrooms, lighting, doors and the fixtures your business needs. We coordinate with the city’s inspections and give you a written schedule tied to them, so your opening date is a plan and not a hope.

Two owners, both veterans, one phone number. We inspect, photograph and tell you what the job really needs, including when it needs nothing yet. Military families and first responders take 10% off.
