Cloverleaf homes along I-10, from the roof down

Cloverleaf packs 24,100 people into 3.3 square miles of east central Harris County, all of it land, between Jacinto City and Channelview along Interstate 10. A community that compact means houses sit close together, and that changes how we plan a tear-off.

Working in Cloverleaf

Cloverleaf began as a stop on the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway, and a 1936 county highway map shows an unnamed development where the community now stands. By 1990 it had 18,230 residents, and the 2020 census counted 24,100, so the place has kept filling in. It remains unincorporated, a census-designated place rather than a city, with Interstate 10 as its main connection to Houston on one side and Channelview on the other. Harris County, about 1,777 square miles and larger than the state of Rhode Island, is the government an unincorporated pocket like Cloverleaf answers to.

Houses on close lots shape a roofing job in practical ways. Debris has to come off the roof into a dumpster or a trailer, never onto the neighbor’s flower bed, and nails cannot end up in the street where the next car finds them. We tarp the side yards, set catch boards along the eaves and run a magnetic sweeper twice. A single-story house can usually be torn off and dried in during one day, which matters when houses sit this close together. On an older home we also allow for older wiring, older plumbing and maybe a second layer of shingles, and we price the tear-off once we have looked.

Cloverleaf has no city government and no city permit office; county rules on floodplain, septic, driveways and culverts, plus state rules, are what can apply, and we check the address before work begins. Children here are zoned to schools in the Galena Park Independent School District, and every Cloverleaf student in grades 9 through 12 is zoned to North Shore Senior High School. If someone in the house needs a step-free shower now, or will within a few years, that is a good reason to plan the bathroom before it becomes urgent.

Do the arithmetic on 24,100 people in 3.3 square miles and you get roughly 7,300 people per square mile. That density drives the logistics of every job here. A crew truck, a dumpster and a shingle delivery all need somewhere to sit, so we agree on parking with you before day one and keep the street open for the people who live on it. Close neighbors also mean we introduce ourselves next door before the dumpster arrives. Tear-off starts at a reasonable hour, and the yard is clean by evening.

The jobs that come up here

Asphalt shingle replacement is the most practical roof here: a full tear-off, new underlayment, new flashing and architectural shingles nailed to the manufacturer’s pattern. If the roof is younger and only has a few damaged areas, we will say so and give you a repair price instead. On a tight lot we tear off and dry in one slope at a time, so the house is never open to a pop-up afternoon storm. Hail damage roof replacement is a different visit, with photos of every bruise and a write-up you can hand your insurance company, and no promises about what they will pay.

Inside, bathroom renovation updates a tired bath without moving walls, which keeps the cost and the mess down in a smaller house. If the house has a single bathroom, we stage the work so a working toilet is available every night, or we tell you ahead of time which nights it cannot be. Kitchen renovation does the same for cabinets, counters and lighting. Veteran ADA remodeling is the right call when someone in the home needs a curbless shower, grab bars or a wider door to get a wheelchair through, and it is planned around the person using the room. Home renovation pulls those rooms together when the whole house needs flooring, doors and trim at once, and doing it in one push saves a month of living in construction. Flooring, doors and trim go in last, after the wet work is done, so nothing new gets splashed or scuffed. We give you a written order of work so you know which room is out of service each week.

  • Asphalt shingle replacement Replacing an asphalt roof is a day of controlled demolition followed by careful building.
  • Bathroom renovation If the tub, toilet and vanity are already in the right places, nothing has to move.
  • Hail damage roof replacement Hail damage on a shingle is a bruise in the mat, soft when you press it, usually with the granules knocked off in a rough circle.

Leave it?

Plenty of roofs we look at need a repair or nothing at all. If that is yours, you will hear it from us first.

Is Cloverleaf part of Houston for permits?

No. Cloverleaf is an unincorporated census-designated place, so City of Houston permit rules do not apply here. County requirements on floodplain, septic, driveways or culverts, plus state rules, can still apply to some jobs, and we check what fits your address before we begin.

How do you keep a Cloverleaf tear-off from making a mess of the neighbor’s yard?

Tarps on the side yards, catch boards on the eaves, debris straight into the dumpster and a magnetic sweep of the lawn and street twice before we leave. If something lands next door, we clean it up and tell the neighbor ourselves.

Can a smaller Cloverleaf bathroom be made wheelchair accessible?

Often, yes. A curbless shower with a linear drain, a comfort-height toilet and a widened door can fit in a modest footprint if the layout cooperates, and sometimes it means borrowing space from a closet. We measure turning space first and tell you honestly if the room cannot get there.

Our Cloverleaf house might have two layers of shingles. Does that change the job?

Yes. Two layers mean more weight to haul off, more disposal and a closer look at the decking, which has been carrying that weight for years. We lift the shingles at an eave to confirm before we price anything.

Can you redo a Cloverleaf kitchen without moving any walls?

Yes, that is what Kitchen Renovation is for: new or refaced cabinets, counters, a backsplash, lighting and fixtures, all within the existing layout. It costs less and goes faster than a full remodel, and it suits a kitchen that works fine but looks tired.
