La Marque’s roofs and remodels, off I-45 and State Highway 3
La Marque grew fast in the 1950s by supplying workers for the petrochemical complex in Texas City next door, and its name, French for the mark, dates from the 1890s. With 56 to 62 inches of rain a year, roofs here spend a lot of their lives shedding water.
Working in La Marque
Before it was La Marque, the place was called Highlands, probably for nearby Highland Creek. In 1867 six families lived here raising cattle or rice. The town took its current name in the 1890s, and by 1914 four railroads reached it. The big growth came in the 1950s, when La Marque supplied a workforce for the petrochemical complex in adjoining Texas City. The city covers 14.3 square miles and counted 18,030 people in 2020. Interstate 45 and State Highway 3 run through it, with Farm Roads 519, 1765 and 2004 crossing town, and Galveston lies about 12 miles to the southeast. Most of La Marque is served by the Texas City Independent School District. Hitchcock, Bayou Vista, Tiki Island and Texas City are the closest places.
La Marque averages between 56 and 62 inches of rain a year. A roof that sheds that much water depends on its valleys, flashing and gutters as much as on its shingles, and a single clogged downspout can send a summer downpour over the fascia and down the siding. We look at the whole path water takes, from ridge to ground, and that includes where it lands beside the slab. Expansive clay soils swell when they are soaked and shrink when they dry, so water dumped against a foundation is a problem that keeps growing after the rain stops.
Galveston County weather is Gulf weather. Hurricanes and tropical storms can arrive from June through November, spring brings hail, and summer thunderstorms push straight-line wind out ahead of them. Each one damages a roof differently. Hail bruises, wind creases and tears, and a tropical system tends to do both and add sideways rain. A hailstorm in April and a tropical storm in September can both leave marks on the same roof in one year. The inspection has to tell those apart before anyone decides what a roof needs, and the written scope says which one we found and where.
Inside La Marque, the city itself reviews building work. Replacing a roof, adding a room or moving plumbing in a bathroom can each need a different level of review, and the city decides. We confirm what your project requires before ordering anything and write it into the scope so there are no surprises halfway through. If the job adds square footage, we ask the floodplain questions at the start, while the plan can still change easily.

The jobs that come up here
Hail damage roof replacement starts with documentation: photographs of bruised shingles, dented vents and granules in the gutters, slope by slope, before anything comes off. That record is what you show your carrier. Architectural shingle installation fits new work, such as an addition, where there is no old roof to tear off and the new section has to tie cleanly into the existing one. When a roof is simply old, roof replacement is the honest answer, and when it still has life in it, we tell you to wait and show you why.
Kitchen remodeling makes sense when the layout is the problem: cabinets in the wrong place, no counter where you need one, a wall that cuts the room in half. Bathroom remodeling covers the same kind of change in the bath, like turning a tub into a walk-in shower or moving a toilet. Home renovation is the lighter pass across several rooms, with new floors, paint, lighting and trim in the existing footprint. We put the scope in writing, room by room, so you can do it all at once or in stages.
- Architectural shingle installation Architectural shingles are two layers of asphalt laminated into one heavier, thicker shingle, cut so the roof shows shadow lines instead of flat rows.
- Bathroom remodeling A remodel changes the bathroom’s layout: the corner garden tub comes out for a walk-in shower, the toilet moves to its own room, a wall shifts to borrow space from a closet.
- Hail damage roof replacement Hail damage on a shingle is a bruise in the mat, soft when you press it, usually with the granules knocked off in a rough circle.

Plenty of roofs we look at need a repair or nothing at all. If that is yours, you will hear it from us first.
How do I know if my gutters can handle La Marque’s rainfall?
Watch them in a hard rain. Water spilling over the front edge or pouring out of a seam means they are undersized, clogged or pitched wrong. We check the size, slope and number of downspouts and tell you which of those is the problem.
Can you add a room to a La Marque house and match the existing roof?
Yes. We tie the new roof into the old one so the lines, pitch and shingle color match as closely as possible. If the existing shingles are near the end of their life, we may suggest re-roofing the whole house at the same time so everything ages together, and we explain the reasoning.
Does the City of La Marque review bathroom remodels?
What the city requires depends on the scope, such as whether a drain or a wall moves. We ask the City of La Marque’s permit office about your specific job and write the answer into the scope before work begins.
Can we keep living in the house during a kitchen remodel?
Yes. We plan the days the kitchen is fully out of service and give you those dates in writing, so you can set up a temporary kitchen somewhere else in the house. The rest of the house stays usable, and we close off the work area at the end of each day.
After a hailstorm, should I call my insurance carrier or a roofer first?
Either order works, as long as the damage is documented before any repairs. We photograph the roof slope by slope and give you a written scope. Your carrier decides the claim, and we do not promise outcomes we do not control.
