Hitchcock roofs and remodels, from the old rail stop to today
Hitchcock started in 1873 as a station on the railroad between Galveston and Houston, and it has been a shipping town, a wartime base and a county fair town since. The 7,301 people who live here now need roofs that ride out Gulf weather and rooms that work for the people in them.
Working in Hitchcock
Around 1900 Hitchcock was a vegetable shipping center, and in the 1930s insect plagues in the surrounding farmland crashed its economy. World War II brought Camp Wallace and Naval Air Station Hitchcock. The town became a city in 1960 as its population boomed, reaching nearly 7,000 by the end of that decade, and the 2020 census counted 7,301 residents, which makes it a suburb of Galveston today. Since 1984 Jack Brooks Park has hosted the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, and every year Juneteenth is celebrated at Stringfellow Orchards, a 9.5-acre complex in town. Most of the city is served by Hitchcock Independent School District. La Marque, Bayou Vista, Santa Fe and Tiki Island are the closest places, with Dickinson a little farther on.
Hurricane Harvey affected Hitchcock in 2017. The county’s storm record goes back much further: the 1900 Galveston Hurricane devastated Galveston County, and the seawall was built during the recovery that followed. A Hitchcock roof faces the same Gulf season every roof in the county does, with hurricanes and tropical storms possible from June through November. Spring hail and the straight-line wind that runs ahead of summer storms leave their own marks, different from a hurricane’s, and the inspection has to sort out which one did the damage.
Hail leaves round bruises where granules have been knocked loose and dents in soft metal like vent caps and gutters. Wind creases shingles along a line and lifts the edges. A hurricane usually does some of both and adds water. Telling those apart matters when you talk to an insurance carrier, and it matters even more when deciding whether a roof needs replacing at all. We document what we find with photographs, slope by slope, and give you a written scope you can hand to anyone who asks. A roof hit by hail last spring and by wind this summer can need a different answer than either storm alone would suggest.
Hitchcock is an incorporated city, and the City of Hitchcock’s permit office reviews work inside its limits. A re-roof, an addition or a bathroom that moves drains may each need something different, and the city decides which. We check what your job needs before we order material. Floodplain questions get asked up front on anything that adds square footage, because answering them late can mean redrawing a plan that was nearly finished. Rules can differ for a shop or a barn behind the house, so we ask about every building on the lot.
The jobs that come up here
Hail damage roof replacement is the right line when a spring storm has bruised shingles across several slopes and knocked the granules loose, and we document it thoroughly before any tear-off. Storm damage roof replacement fits the mixed case after a tropical system, where wind, rain and debris all left marks. If the property has a barn or a shop with an old metal roof, metal roof replacement covers swapping tired panels and fasteners for new ones, with the trim sealed against blowing rain. A roof that still has life in it gets a repair and a straight answer, never a sales pitch.
Inside, bathroom remodeling covers moving fixtures and changing a layout, and veteran ADA remodeling adds grab bars, wider doors, a curbless shower or a ramp where someone in the house needs them. Kitchen renovation updates cabinets, counters and lighting in the existing layout without moving walls. Access work is easier to plan than to retrofit, so if anyone in the house will need it in the next few years, it belongs in the first conversation. We write the scope room by room so you can see every piece before work starts. When a kitchen and a bathroom both need work, we stagger them so the house is never without both at once.
- Bathroom remodeling A remodel changes the bathroom’s layout: the corner garden tub comes out for a walk-in shower, the toilet moves to its own room, a wall shifts to borrow space from a closet.
- Hail damage roof replacement Hail damage on a shingle is a bruise in the mat, soft when you press it, usually with the granules knocked off in a rough circle.
- Metal roof replacement A metal replacement usually starts one of two ways: a worn shingle roof and an owner who wants something longer-lived, or an old metal roof leaking at its screws.

Plenty of roofs we look at need a repair or nothing at all. If that is yours, you will hear it from us first.
How can I tell hail damage from wind damage on my Hitchcock roof?
Hail leaves round bruises where the granules have been knocked off, along with dents in vents and gutters. Wind leaves creased or missing shingles, usually in a line along the edges and ridge. We show you photographs of whichever one you have, and sometimes it is both. The pictures make the difference plain even to someone who has never been on a roof.
Could Harvey have left damage in my Hitchcock house that I cannot see?
Possibly. Water that got into walls or under flooring can leave soft subfloor, swollen baseboards or mold behind cabinets. If you are planning a remodel, we open things up carefully and tell you what we find before we price the rest. Most of what turns up is fixable, and we price it room by room.
Who reviews a remodel in Hitchcock?
The City of Hitchcock’s permit office, for work inside the city limits. What it needs depends on the scope, since moving a wall or a drain is a different job from replacing a vanity in place. We find out before work starts and put it in writing.
Is a metal roof right for a barn or shop on a Hitchcock property?
Often it is. Exposed-fastener panels go on quickly and hold up well on a building that does not need an attic. The fasteners and trim need to be chosen for coastal weather, and we write those choices into the scope so you know what you are getting. On the house itself, shingles are usually still the better fit, and we explain why.
Can you plan accessible changes before anyone in the house needs them?
Yes, and it is far less trouble that way. Blocking in the walls for future grab bars, a shower with no curb and a wider doorway are simple during a remodel and harder later. We plan them in while you are already redoing the room.

We are based in Cypress and work across twelve counties around Houston. Leland Cannon retired from the Army as a First Sergeant; Geoff Schardien served in the Air Force. The scope you get is in writing, and the person who wrote it answers the phone.
